Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared in an interview with the Patrióta YouTube channel that Ukraine has lost the war and Russia has won, arguing that Kyiv has not capitulated yet only because of of Western financial and military support.
He said the West will eventually have to “acknowledge reality” and negotiate the terms of a peace deal.
Orbán reiterated Hungary’s opposition to Ukraine’s EU membership, citing economic and strategic risks, and defended vetoing an EU statement on the Trump–Putin meeting because it endorsed Ukraine’s accession.
He criticized Europe’s leadership for lacking ambition and allowing the continent’s future to be decided without it, while the U.S. and Russia negotiate global power balances. In the meantime, Ukrainan statehood has come under serious threat.
On the same programme, conservative security analyst György Nógrádi added that fears of an imminent Russian invasion of Europe are unfounded.
Both agreed that Europe treats the conflict ideologically, not on the basis of interests, and that neither Hungary nor other major EU member states like France would benefit from Ukraine joining the EU.
