Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on February 7th that he will be going to Washington “in two weeks” to attend the first meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace. One of the U.S. leader’s closest allies in the European Union, Orbán attended the launch of the initiative last month in Davos.
Although originally intended to oversee Gaza’s rebuilding, the board’s charter does not seem to limit its role to the Palestinian territory and appears to want to rival the United Nations.
The upcoming meeting was also confirmed by Political Director of the Prime Minister Balázs Orbán and Secretary of State Zoltán Kovács on X.

“Two weeks from now we will meet again in Washington, because the Board of Peace, the peace body, will have an inaugural meeting,” the Hungarian prime minister said at an event in the western town of Szombathely. The prime minister himself also posted the statement on Instagram.
The event in Szombathely was organised in light of the Russia-Ukraine war, where the prime minister stressed that Hungary must stay out of the war at all costs.
