Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán has criticised Sweden in an X post, saying
We feel for the Swedish people—trapped in disorder while their leaders spend their time pointing fingers.

Let’s have a look at the facts:
🇭🇺 Hungary: 0 bombings, 0 illegal migrants, 132 people smugglers caught, 16,000 illegal migrants apprehended in 2024 alone. Safe,… pic.twitter.com/mbEeM0KAzt
In his post Orbán contrasted the public safety situation in Sweden with that of Hungary. He highlighted that in 2024 Hungary recorded zero bombings, caught 132 people smugglers, and apprehended 16,000 illegal migrants, presenting the country as safe and under control. In contrast, Sweden experienced 317 gang-related explosions, including 32 in January alone, had 62,000 people linked to criminal networks, 8,935 illegal migrants, and a firearms homicide rate of 4 per million, well above the EU average of 1.6.
“This chaos must not be Europe’s future,” Orbán stated. “Our people deserve better.” His comments reflect ongoing concerns in Hungary over migration and security policy, emphasizing a strict approach to border control and law enforcement.
The X post comes following a series of earlier exchanges on the same platform with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, in which Sweden’s head of government accused his Hungarian counterpart of sharing “lies” about his Sweden and cited alleged rule of law violations in Hungary.
Unlike Sweden and several other Western countries, Hungary has effectively defended its borders, organized homeland security, and maintained order. It is now the safest European country.
Ten years ago, Hungary erected a border fence at Röszke, along its southern frontier, successfully preventing over one million migrants from entering Europe and significantly contributing to the region’s border security.
