South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa (58), was found dead on Tuesday, September 30, outside a Paris hotel.
French prosecutors said the window of his 22nd-floor room had been forced open. His wife had reported him missing the previous day.
A source suggested suicide, citing Mthethwa’s history of depression—though French authorities have not confirmed this.
Mthethwa, a former minister and ally of ex-President Jacob Zuma, had served as ambassador since December 2023. The investigation is ongoing.
