Following the back-to-back scandals of Qatargate, Pfizergate, Reynders Gate, Timmermans Gate, and the current Huawei investigation, Patriots for Europe have lost faith in the ability of the EU to protect its ethical integrity.

On Tuesday, April 1st, the party group—the third-largest in the EU Parliament—shared a statement on X, along with the caption “The Patriots for Europe are committed to fighting corruption and influence peddling, and to improve financial and lobbying transparency in the European institutions. Our inquiry committee offers real action, unlike the left’s weak ethics body.”

According to the statement, the current ethics body, supported by the left-liberal parties, focuses solely on covering up and sweeping concerns under the rug, while failing to tackle past misconduct or prevent financial fraud and undue influence. They stress that this situation highlights the Parliament’s reluctance to confront corruption within its own ranks, reinforcing the need for a more powerful inquiry committee to ensure true accountability and transparency.
