Parents and teachers have joined forces to oppose an LGBT awareness-raising program that activists planned to organise at an unnamed local school, Remix News reported, citing Polish outlet Do Rzeczy. The initiative was eventually withdrawn after some teachers protested and the school administration raised concerns that such programs do not provide objective information but instead promote an ideological agenda.
One of the organisers, activist Mateusz Sulwiński, wrote on social media that the training had been unexpectedly cancelled, even though it was free and all the speakers were ready. According to him, not only one school but also several institutions and parents’ associations “actively blocked” the program. He believes the cancellation was due to ideological opposition rather than administrative reasons.
The case has once again drawn attention to the broader debate in Poland over whether LGBT topics in schools serve an educational purpose or represent the promotion of a particular worldview. Supporters say such programs promote acceptance and protect minorities, while opponents argue they undermine traditional family values and parents’ rights to direct their children’s education.
