Germany posts first negative migration balance with Poland in 25 years as migrants cite terrorism threats and economic decline.

Security fears are driving more Poles out of Germany than in, marking the country’s first negative migration balance with Poland in 25 years. 

In 2024, 9,000 more Poles left than arrived, according to the Federal Statistical Office. 

The UK has warned its citizens of a “high likelihood” of terrorist attacks in Germany, citing recent knife and gun assaults at synagogues, markets, and public events. 

Andrzej Kubisiak of the Polish Economic Institute said economic stagnation and two years of recession have further eroded Germany’s appeal, prompting many migrants to seek better prospects in their home countries or elsewhere.
