Polish conservative and right-wing parties would get a majority of the votes if elections were to be held today, according to the latest opinion poll.
While liberal Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s Civic Coalition is still in the lead with 31.66%, it would lose the elections as it would not be able to continue governing with its current coalition partners.
The leftist Lewica party would only get 6.62% of the votes, while the centrist Polska 2050 (3.38%) and the centre-right Polish People’s Party (3.13%) would fail to enter parliament.
On the other hand, the conservative opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party would finish in second place with 26.85%, followed by two right-wing nationalist parties: Konfederacja on 16.7% and Konfederacja Korony Polskiej on 7.27%.
The results would ensure the defeat of the Tusk government and the emergence of a conservative government coalition between two or three parties.
The poll is a warning sign for the government, which has been using its one-and-a-half years in power to persecute its rivals. Recently, the cabinet has come under attack for failing to control the influx of migrants seeping through Poland’s borders.
