Support for Ukrainian refugees is declining in the Czech Republic as economic unease stirs public discontent

A new survey by the STEM research agency shows growing fatigue in the Czech Republic toward Ukrainian refugees, with 58% saying the country has taken in too many. The poll also found that 40% of Czechs tolerate Ukrainians but are tired of their presence.

“If the economic situation worsens, coexistence with Ukrainians could become significantly more complicated,” said STEM analyst Jiří Táborský, adding that opposition to immigration is closely linked to economic concerns.

The Czech Republic hosts about 373,700 Ukrainians with temporary protection. This is the third-highest in the EU, but ranks first per capita, with 34.3 per 1,000 people.
