The Pope has urged Catholics and other religious faithful to observe a day of fasting and prayer on Friday, August 22nd, for peace in Ukraine, the Middle East, and other war-torn regions.
Speaking at his weekly audience at the Vatican, he called on the faithful to ask God to “grant us peace and justice and to wipe away the tears of those who suffer because of the ongoing armed conflicts.”
Since the start of his papacy, he has made several appeals to end the war in Ukraine. His first known phone call with a foreign leader was to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, whom he also met in person in July.
