The annual Pride march in Brussels descended into chaos on Saturday night, May 17th, after a group of pro-Palestinian activists disrupted the event, prompting police intervention and resulting in six arrests.

The disturbance occurred at the main stage, which traditionally hosts the final Pride celebrations. Around 7:00 PM, while musical performances were underway, roughly fifty demonstrators entered the crowd. According to the stage organiser, some of them threw glass bottles at the stage, striking the DJ.

The organisers immediately halted the event and requested police assistance. Brussels police confirmed the unrest, reporting that around a hundred demonstrators had gathered and that several attempted to storm the stage.

As tensions escalated, fear spread among attendees. “Half of those present left out of fear of further unrest,” police said. Six people were arrested for disturbing public order.

This confrontation followed a tense evening the night before at the same location, when Pride attendees and pro-Palestinian activists had already clashed. The events on Saturday underscore a growing disconnect: while many on the Left and within the Pride community support the Palestinian cause, they often don’t realise that the sentiment is rarely mutual.
