Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed that Moscow would emerge victorious in Ukraine just as the Soviet Union did in World War II, as he rallied the nation during the Victory Day parade on Red Square on Friday, May 9th, flanked by key allies, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“The whole country, society, and people support the participants of the special military operation,” Putin declared in his address to the assembled troops and international dignitaries. “We are proud of their bravery and determination, of the fortitude that has always brought us only victory.”
“Russia will remain an invincible defender against those who support Nazism, Russophobia and antisemitism,” the President continued.
The annual Victory Day parade, marking the Soviet defeat of Nazi Germany, took on intensified political symbolism this year. “Russia will remain an invincible defender against those who support Nazism, Russophobia and anti-Semitism,” Putin stated. His speech referred to WWII events, but could be very easily understood for the politics of today.
Xi Jinping’s presence emphasized China’s strategic alignment with Moscow. The two leaders held talks a day earlier, signaling continued cooperation amid global tensions. Chinese troops also marched in the parade.
