Moscow threatens a major response after the Boracay—allegedly part of the European Union-blacklisted “shadow fleet”—was detained.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned France for seizing the Russian-linked tanker the Boracay, calling it “piracy” and promising a strong response.

The ship, allegedly from Russia’s European Union-blacklisted “shadow fleet,” has been linked to recent drone flights over Denmark.

The Chinese captain of the Boracay will face trial in France over registration issues, although his first mate has now been released.

President Emmanuel Macron of France urged Europe to act against the shadow fleet, In contrast, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned of the potential global energy market impacts of such actions.
