U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that the Trump administration will revoke visas for immigrants who “glorify” political killings, following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
In an interview with Fox News, Rubio said the U.S. should not “give visas to people who celebrate the assassination of a political figure,” adding that visas of those already in the country should be revoked.
His comments came after the State Department said it would monitor visa applicants’ statements for signs of glorifying violence. Deputy Secretary Chris Landau wrote on X that foreigners praising the killing would not be welcome and urged people to report such comments.
Since Trump’s return to the White House in January, more than 6,000 student visas have been revoked for reasons ranging from crimes to support for terrorism.
Kirk was fatally shot last week while speaking at Utah Valley University. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested 33 hours later, with charges expected soon.
