India faces growing U.S. pressure over its oil imports even as Moscow moves to deepen economic ties.

Russian president Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Russia is ready to keep supplying fuel to India without interruption despite strong U.S. pressure on New Delhi to reduce purchases from Moscow.

Standing beside Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Putin called Russia a “reliable supplier” of energy for India’s fast-growing economy.

The comments come after U.S. president Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on most Indian products in August, arguing that India’s Russian oil imports help fund the war in Ukraine.

Modi thanked Putin for his “unwavering commitment” and stressed the importance of energy in India-Russia relations. He also announced a new economic cooperation program running until 2030, alongside several agreements on jobs and health.
