Moscow's strikes on Ukraine have led to further drone and missile incursions into a NATO member’s airspace.

On Wednesday, September 10th, Poland’s armed forces reported that their nation’s airspace was breached several times by drones, during a Russian attack on Ukraine.

“During today’s attack by the Russian Federation aimed at targets in Ukraine, our airspace was repeatedly violated by drones,” according to a social media statement from Poland’s military operational command.

The statement noted that operations were ongoing to “identify and neutralise” some of the targets and to track down others that had fallen. The command had earlier confirmed that Polish and allied aircraft were mobilised following the Russian attack.

Warsaw’s main Chopin Airport was also shut down, according to a notice from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, which cited “unplanned military activity related to ensuring state security.”

“We do not trust Vladimir Putin’s good intentions,” Polish President Karol Nawrocki told reporters on Tuesday, at a press conference in Helsinki.

During the three-and-a-half years of war, Russian drones and missiles have on several occasions crossed into the airspace of NATO members, particularly in Scandinavia, or in the Baltic States.

Just last month, Warsaw reported that a Russian military drone entered its territory and detonated in farmland in eastern Poland, describing the act as a “provocation.”
