NATO vows to protect allies after Moscow’s airspace breaches and drone disruptions in Europe.

After three Russian jets entered its airspace on Friday, September 19, Estonia invoked NATO’s Article 4.

NATO warned Moscow it would defend against further breaches, citing recent drone incidents over Poland and rising concerns in Europe over Russian aggression.

Russia was cautioned that NATO would use all necessary military and non-military means to defend its members, stressing Article 5’s principle that an attack on one ally is an attack on all.

The statement followed Estonia’s request for Article 4 consultations after Russian jets violated its airspace, and Poland’s vow to shoot down any intruding objects.

NATO also announced the Eastern Sentry programme to deter further Russian incursions and demonstrate solidarity with Poland.

Meanwhile, drone sightings forced temporary closures of airports in Denmark and Norway, adding to concerns over Russian involvement in recent incidents.
