Authorities report a sharp rise in violent incidents among Russian children, raising concerns over safety—and demand for preventive measures.

A 10-year-old child was fatally stabbed by a fellow pupil at a school in Gorki-2, a village west of Moscow in the Odintsovo district, on Tuesday, December 16th.

Local police confirmed that the suspect, a 15-year-old, had been detained following the attack, which also involved a security guard being stabbed and pepper-sprayed.

Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a probe to determine the motive behind the incident. While school attacks were once rare in the country, recent years have seen a troubling increase, including a 2023 shooting in Bryansk that killed a classmate and a hammer attack in Chelyabinsk that injured four people.

Authorities and parents are now calling for stronger preventive measures to protect pupils in schools across the nation.
