Police in southern Scotland have issued rape alarms to schoolgirls in Dumfries following reports of suspicious behaviour by male migrants housed in a nearby hotel, prompting local concern over safety.
According to police, two girls were given personal alarms after reporting that men had taken photos of them without consent near a school. Residents claim groups of men have been loitering around school grounds during breaks, with some alleging inappropriate comments and behaviour toward pupils.
The hotel, which reportedly houses single male asylum seekers under a Home Office contract, has already drawn protests after a separate child protection incident led to the arrest of a 19-year-old, who was later released without charge.
Scottish Conservative MSP Craig Hoy described the situation as “deeply alarming” and called for the facility’s closure, urging authorities to reassure residents and strengthen monitoring of those housed there.
