New indictments relate to last November’s Novi Sad station roof collapse—amid widespread concerns about corruption.

Serbian prosecutors filed an updated indictment on Tuesday, September 16, against 13 people—including former construction minister Goran Vesić—over a fatal railway station roof collapse that has triggered a wave of anti-government protests.

The indictment asks the court to detain all defendants. Subsequently, the prosecutor’s office said it had complied with the judge’s request and had now completed the supplementary investigation. That investigation is focused on 13 people, including Vesić and another former minister, Tomislav Momirović (who headed the Construction Ministry before him).

In March, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) launched a third, separate investigation into the possible misuse of Brussels’ funds for the station’s reconstruction, further complicating Serbia’s relationship with the European Union that it seeks to join.
