Seven MPs have left the parliamentary group of the Netherlands’ right-wing Party for Freedom (PVV) after an internal dispute over the party’s direction, leadership, and internal organisation.
The split followed a closed meeting in which the MPs raised concerns about strategy and decision-making. According to reports by De Telegraaf and NOS, the departing lawmakers argued that the PVV was delivering too few concrete results and criticised its structure, under which party leader Geert Wilders is the sole formal member. They claimed that this model posed long-term risks and called for a clearer focus on substantive policy rather than provocation.
Wilders said he was surprised by the move and believed agreement on the party’s course had already been reached. Writing on X, he described the split as “a black day” but said the party would continue.
