Drivers over 65 can breathe easier—but those using e-scooters will have to slow down.

Slovakia’s parliament has passed an amendment to the traffic law that will limit movement on pavements in built-up areas to 6 km/h. The rule applies to skaters, scooter and e-scooter riders, and cyclists.

MP Ľubomír Vážny, who proposed the law, said the measure aims to reduce collisions on pavements, especially with electric scooters.

E-scooters are increasingly seen as dangerous across European cities, with Paris having already outlawed them and Prague set to ban them.

The Slovak regulation has already drawn criticism, with many questioning how it will be enforced.

The new speed limit, along with other road safety updates, will take effect on January 1, 2026.
