A 57-year-old Syrian man allegedly chased and fatally stabbed the woman on Sunday.

A woman was killed in the German city of Magdeburg on Sunday after being stabbed by a 57-year-old Syrian man. The suspectwho was also seriously injuredwas arrested at the scene. Authorities are investigating the case on suspicion of manslaughter.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon in the Neue Neustadt district. Police said the 57-year-old Syrian suspect attacked the woman on the street, and despite immediate medical intervention, she died at the scene. The motive remains unclear.

According to Bild, the Syrian allegedly chased the victim through the city. She tried to flee into the entrance of an office building that also houses a fitness studio, but the attacker followed her into the stairwell and stabbed her multiple times. Police spokesman Stefan Brodtrück confirmed: “Despite immediate rescue efforts, the victim died at the scene.”

The suspect was found with serious injuries, which he may have inflicted on himself, Bild reported.

The attacker was taken into temporary custody and admitted to a local hospital.
