The British government smashed a new record overnight—not one it will welcome.
An informal headcount for Monday, August 11th, indicates that a known total of 50,000 ‘small boat’ migrants have arrived on English shores illegally since Keir Starmer’s Labour took office last year.
While the latest daily arrivals figure—estimated at 430 on Monday—will be confirmed officially in the days ahead, this new total points to the abject failure of the government to exercise border control.
What’s concerning is not just the numbers, but how quickly this total was reached. Of the recent prime ministers, the present incumbent has the worst record:
- Starmer (’Smash the Gangs’): 50k small boat migrants in 401 days
- Hapless Rishi Sunak (‘Stop the Boats’): 603 days
- Boris Johnson: 1066 days
While the most recent Labour initiatives have yet to act as a deterrent, the application of the European Convention on Human Rights and a broader failure of political will almost certainly guarantees these numbers will carry on rising, crossing new thresholds along the way.
