German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier congratulated independent conservative candidate Karol Nawrocki on winning Poland’s presidential election on Monday, June 2nd. Steinmeier called for the two countries to “cooperate closely based on democracy and the rule of law.”
Poland and Germany are key to “ensure a future of security, freedom and prosperity for Europe,” the German president said in a statement, after Nawrocki defeated pro-EU Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski in a runoff on Sunday.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán took to X to express satisfaction over the “fantastic” result of the Polish presidential election, which he desribed as a “nail-biter.” Orbán added that he is looking forward to Hungary and Poland working together to strengthen the Visegrád cooperation.
What a nail-biter! Congratulations to President @NawrockiKn on his fantastic victory in the Polish presidential elections. We are looking forward to working with you on strengthening the Visegrad cooperation. Powodzenia, Panie Prezydencie!
