Erstwhile Tory Home Secretary Suella Braverman has defected from the Conservative Party to Reform UK, delivering another blow to her ex-leader Kemi Badenoch—as divisions continue within the party.
Braverman was unveiled as Reform UK’s eighth Member of Parliament at a London event on Monday, January 26th, where she appeared alongside party leader Nigel Farage.
Braverman confirmed she had resigned her Conservative membership after 30 years, telling supporters:
I feel like I’ve come home.
In a speech outlining her reasons for defecting, she said Britain was “broken,” citing uncontrolled immigration, struggling public services, and declining national security. “We stand at a crossroads,” she said, arguing the country must choose between “managed decline” or renewal.
Braverman becomes the fourth sitting Conservative MP to join Reform UK since the last general election, and the third to defect this month.
