New polling shows that nearly 94% of Poles trust the military, and confidence in NATO remains high, but trust in the European Union is declining. In September 2025, 50% of Poles say they trust the EU, while 44% express distrust—the highest level recorded in recent years.
Declining trust in the EU may reflect Brussels’ focus on long-term economic and political projects, which can seem less urgent to citizens who are facing more immediate challenges.
Key EU initiatives include migration relocation, climate neutrality by 2050, trade deals, new taxes and joint loans, media regulation, potential treaty changes reducing veto rights, and proposals for a common army.
The division in the population over trusting Brussels was also reflected in the recent election of Truth and Justice party-friendly national conservative president, Karol Nawrocki—who is now serving alongside the pro-EU PM Donald Tusk.
