A majority of Germans (51%) consider it possible that the right-wing opposition Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party will win the next general elections, according to a new survey by the Insa polling institute.
The AfD recently overtook the centre-right CDU/CSU alliance as the most popular party in Germany.
Close to half of respondents (46%) also said that the AfD should be treated as all the other parties—ie., the cordon sanitaire imposed on the AfD by the ruling elites should be torn down. Only 33% disagreed with this statement.
