Danish police launched an investigation on Thursday, July 3, after a suspicious package was sent to the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen. A significant police and emergency presence could be seen near the embassy, including a hazmat emergency response team vehicle.
Copenhagen police confirmed the incident on X, stating, “We are present at the Israeli Embassy, where we are investigating a shipment received.” Authorities added, “We currently have no further information,” and announced that nearby roads had been closed off as a precaution.
Photos also showed armed police, soldiers, and personnel in dark green hazmat suits and gas masks standing behind a cordoned-off section.
The incident comes amid heightened security at Israeli and Jewish sites across Europe. Just last week, Danish security officers arrested an Iranian spy in Aarhus on suspicion of gathering intelligence on Jewish locations and individuals in Germany. German federal prosecutors later confirmed that the man had been tasked earlier this year with collecting information on “Jewish localities and specific Jewish individuals” in Berlin.
