Stockholm revealed that its drone-protection funding will support new radar platforms, anti-aircraft systems, and electronic warfare tools—all part of its broader military modernization.

Sweden’s government announced Thursday, April 4th that it was investing more than $900 million (€781 million) in national air and UAV defence capabilities. The investment would cover multiple systems—such as radar and anti-aircraft weapons systems—as well as electronic warfare platforms.

Swedish defence minister Pål Jonson said in a statement it was “more important than ever to invest in air defence capabilities,” which was true for all countries in the NATO military alliance.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that we will need to see an increase of more than 400% in air defence capabilities within the NATO alliance.

Jonson also stated that “Europe must take much greater responsibility for its own security by investing heavily in its armed forces.”

The commitment follows an announcement in January that Sweden would invest four billion kronor (approximately €374 million) to acquire a wide range of military drone systems for all branches of its armed forces.
