Russia has intensified its hybrid threat activities and appears increasingly willing to take greater risks in the regions surrounding Sweden, the head of Swedish military intelligence stated on Tuesday.
Thomas Nilsson, head of the Military Intelligence and Security Service (MUST), noted
Russia has, in certain cases, stepped up its actions and increased its presence–perhaps with a greater risk appetite–in our vicinity.
Nilsson’s remarks coincided with the agency’s annual threat assessment, which explicitly identified Russia as the primary “military threat to Sweden and NATO.” The review warned that this threat is likely to escalate as Russia continues to funnel more resources into its armed forces.
