Last October, public broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT) transmitted allegedly manipulated video of a Donald Trump speech, which was edited to make it appear as if he was inciting supporters to storm the Capitol.
In circumstances similar to the ongoing scandal at the BBC, Sveriges Television have yet to respond to questions about video manipulation, but its marketing department circulated an email regarding the allegations:
Our publishers are secure with SVT Nyheter’s collected publications in connection with the storming of the Capitol.
SVT subsequently modified the broadcasted video, but the current version retains a similar message, where sections of Trump’s January 6th speech are spliced together to suggest he incited violence.
After the BBC content came to light, Trump threatened a $1 billion lawsuit for damages due to the false claims that were broadcast. It is not yet known whether legal action will also be taken against the Swedish public television company, but in any case, the stakes are high.
