Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Lithuania may—or may not—be gearing up for a joint purchase of Swedish-made Combat Vehicle 90 assault tanks.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson floated the idea on Wednesday during a press conference with Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas, framing the potential deal as a step toward deeper regional defense cooperation.
But by Thursday, the mood had shifted. Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen poured cold water on the proposal, saying no such plans are currently on the table. While the Finnish Army is indeed preparing for a major equipment overhaul in the coming decade, transitioning to a unified fleet of CV9030 combat vehicles remains speculative at best.
The CV90—built by Swedish defense firm BAE Systems Hägglunds—is a tracked infantry fighting vehicle designed for speed, agility, and survivability. It’s lighter than a main battle tank but still packs a serious punch on the modern battlefield.
