A Danish court has put two Swedish youngsters on trial on terrorism charges for having thrown two hand grenades at the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen last year. The now-adult defendants face terrorism charges, as well as aggravated assault and attempted murder, based on their actions as teenagers.

The younger defendant pleaded not guilty to terrorism but admitted to throwing two grenades, claiming they were not aimed at the embassy. His lawyer noted that he was recruited by the Swedish criminal network Foxtrot while in secondary school.

The same teenager is also facing prosecution in Sweden for a shooting at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm on October 1st, 2024. The older defendant has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The attack occurred on the night of October 2nd, 2024, when two explosions were reported near the embassy in Hellerup. Prosecutors said the pair transported five hand grenades to the area and threw two at the embassy, which instead hit a nearby residential building.

The duo, aged 16 and 18 at the time, were arrested at Copenhagen’s train station as they prepared to travel to Amsterdam. A six-day trial has been scheduled, starting in November but with the days spread out, It is expected to end on February 3rd.

The Copenhagen incident followed a shooting at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm just hours earlier. In May 2024, Swedish intelligence services claimed that Iran was recruiting members of Swedish criminal gangs to carry out attacks against Israeli institutions, which Tehran has denied.
