An explosion on the outskirts of Thessaloniki early Saturday morning damaged a residential building and injured two passers-by.
The blast occurred in the Sikies district of Greece’s second-largest city, damaging six cars and shattering windows in nearby buildings. The Greek anti-terrorism police have launched an investigation. Authorities said the head of the prison officers’ union lives in the affected building.
A young man and a woman were injured by flying glass as they passed by the scene. The explosion heavily damaged the ground floor of the building, blowing large holes in its walls.
It is not the first such incident in Thessaloniki this year. In May, an explosion outside a local bank killed a woman during a robbery attempt. She was reportedly linked to a jailed bank robber accused of terrorism for sending a parcel bomb to the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal in February 2024.
