While the synagogue assailant was killed, two of his Jewish targets were also shot by police in error.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said one of the fatalities in the Manchester synagogue attack may have been shot by its officers while trying to stop a terrorist from entering Heaton Park Synagogue on the morning of Thursday, October 2nd.

During the incident a reported two civilians were hit by police gunfire when police shot and killed Jihad Al-Shamie, 35. The gunfire came minutes after he drove—wearing a fake suicide vest—into a group gathering for Yom Kippur, before stabbing worshippers. Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, from Crumpsall, died in the attack.

Medical professionals have confirmed that one of attacker Al-Shamie’s three injured victims also suffered a police gunshot wound, a detail echoed by GMP itself.

Police reports indicate that one of the victims appeared to have a bullet wound, while another sustained a non-life-threatening firearms-related injury. Both were reportedly near the synagogue door among worshippers who bravely blocked Al-Shamie in an attempt to disarm him.

Full post mortem examinations are scheduled throughout Friday, October 3rd.
