A Russian missile attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Balakliia has killed three, according to Kharkiv regional officials on Monday, November 17th.
The overnight strike hit multi-storey residence blocks and destroyed dozens of vehicles in the city centre. Three teenagers were among the injured, of whom nine were admitted to hospital.
The attack followed night-time drone and missile strikes on other parts of the region, including the southern city of Izyum, which temporarily crippled its power supply. To date, the Ukrainian authorities have only publicised the violence using the Telegram messaging app, making the exact details difficult to verify internationally.
Despite various diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, it now looks set to enter its fourth year with little prospect for peace—and the majority of the casualties incurred by the Ukrainian side.
