Toronto’s TIFF dropped the documentary The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue over alleged copyright concerns tied to footage filmed by Hamas terrorists themselves during the massacre on October 7th.

The film included helmet-cam and phone recordings made by the attackers as they stormed Israeli communities, killing over 1,200 people—including women, children, and the elderly—and abducting more than 250.

Canadian director Barry Avrich used the material to show both the atrocities and the dramatic rescue efforts of Israeli forces.

TIFF claimed the use of Hamas-recorded footage without consent posed legal problems.

Avrich called the decision a “missed opportunity to show the truth about October 7 to an international audience.”

Survivors and bereaved families said the cancellation was another blow, denying them a public record of what happened. Whether the film will screen at other festivals remains unclear.
