Labour peer Lord Cashman has described some of his friends as potential asylum seekers following last week’s Supreme Court ruling that sex, as enshrined in the Equality Act (2010), is biological—meaning those born male are not entitled to women’s rights in law.

After the country’s highest court ruled that transgender women are not legally women, a series of bizarre protests erupted, with more threatened in the weeks ahead. Now Lord Cashman—best known for playing Colin Russell in the BBC soap opera “EastEnders”—has added his voice to the hysteria, telling the unelected House of Lords

Currently, trans people in this country live in fear, they live in fear of their safety, their futures … Indeed, some friends are now looking at seeking asylum in countries where they will fear not [for their] safety but where they will receive a welcome.

These claims were not supported by any evidence, although as a founder of LGBT lobby group Stonewall, Cashman will be aware of how easy it is to campaign on ideology alone.

Of the hundreds of small boat migrants who arrived on British shores on the day of the peer’s address to the Lords, none have yet reported seeing trans asylum seekers heading in the opposite direction.
