The summit, set to take place in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, is expected to be attended by leaders from over 20 countries, with U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi co-hosting the event.
Attendees will include UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as well Jordan’s King Abdullah II. UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he will also attend.
The European Council will be represented by its president, António Costa. “The plan offers a real chance for a just and sustainable peace, and the EU is fully committed to supporting these efforts and contributing to their implementation,” a Council spokesperson said.
It remains unclear whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will participate.
Hamas, meanwhile, has ruled out attendance. Hossam Badran, a member of the group’s political bureau, said Hamas “will not participate in the matter,” noting that previous Gaza negotiations were primarily conducted through Qatari and Egyptian mediators. A Hamas source added that the group would not be involved in Gaza’s post-war governance, saying, “For Hamas, governing the Gaza Strip is a closed issue … but it remains an integral part of the Palestinian fabric.”
The terrorist group also told AFP on Sunday that they will begin releasing the remaining hostages on Monday, before the summit begins.
