Despite not having a close personal relationship, the two politicians had a friendly and productive meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit.

Dutch right-wing leader Geert Wilders revealed on Wednesday, June 25th, that he held an “excellent” meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit, in The Hague.

“Thank you so much Mr President … for the excellent meeting we just had and our discussion about the need for tougher immigration laws,” Wilders posted on X, emphasizing their shared views on migration policy.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Trump was asked whether he was concerned about Wilders’ political views and anti-immigrant stance. “I’m not upset about it,” Trump said. “It’s just his view. He’s unhappy with the way things are going in this country.”

The U.S. President said he “didn’t know” Wilders but after their meeting he described him as a “very nice guy.”
