The United States is reportedly considering deploying up to 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East as tensions with Iran continue to rise, with both sides signalling a growing risk of escalation.

The Pentagon has already sent around 2,000 troops from the elite 82nd Airborne Division, while roughly 5,000 Marines and naval personnel are currently stationed in the region.

According to defence officials cited by The Wall Street Journal, the proposed reinforcement would include infantry units and armoured vehicles, placing American forces within striking distance of key Iranian targets such as Kharg Island and the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, President Donald Trump has extended his deadline for potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, saying negotiations are progressing. “Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well,” Trump stated, adding that he would pause action for 10 days until April 6th.

The White House has also maintained a firm stance. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt warned that Trump is “ready to unleash hell” if Iran refuses to negotiate.

Iran has responded with a large-scale mobilisation. According to Iranian sources, more than one million citizens have been prepared for a potential conflict, while Tehran has reinforced strategic Kharg Island by deploying air defence systems and laying mines around key oil infrastructure.

Despite the military build-up, diplomatic efforts continue. Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, said there are “strong signs” Iran may be open to talks, following a 15-point proposal delivered via Pakistan.
