U.S. President Donald Trump has taken to his Truth Social platform and rebuked Great Britain for its expensive and old-fashioned approach to its oil (and, presumably, gas) reserves.
According to Trump, it is important that the UK incentivises the most modern drilling techniques to obtain 100 years’ worth of hydrocarbons underwater, backed by substantial reforms to taxation. In contrast, the current emphasis on renewables—including wind farms—should halt.
This latest exhortation will come as bad news for Labour’s embattled energy and net zero secretary Ed Miliband, whose policies have already served to increase UK energy prices and attract U.S. criticism.
