The U.S. president said Colombian president Gustavo Petro encourages the mass production of drugs.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, October 19th accused Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro of “encouraging” the “mass production of drugs,” stating that the United States would be ending “large-scale payments and subsidies” to the Latin American country.

On his Truth Social platform, the president called Petro “an illegal drug leader,” and said

AS OF TODAY, THESE PAYMENTS, OR ANY OTHER FORM OF PAYMENT, OR SUBSIDIES, WILL NO LONGER BE MADE.

Last month, Washington announced it had decertified Colombia as an ally in the fight against drugs, a decision that could cost Bogotá hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. military support.
