Move comes as U.S. envoy visits Kyiv and Trump prepares for NATO talks in Washington.

U.S. president Donald Trump announced on Sunday, July 13, that the United States will send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, citing the country’s urgent need for protection against the ongoing Russian invasion.

“We will send them Patriots, which they desperately need,” Trump told reporters, though he did not specify how many systems would be provided. “I haven’t agreed on the number yet, but they’re going to have some because they do need protection,” he added.

The announcement comes just two weeks after Washington said it would pause certain arms deliveries to Kyiv. According to Trump, the weapons transfer will form part of a broader agreement under which NATO will contribute financially to U.S. military aid for Ukraine.

On Monday, U.S. special envoy Keith Kellogg arrived in Kyiv for defense talks. His visit coincides with a scheduled meeting between President Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Washington later the same day.
