U.S. president Donald Trump slammed Europe in an interview with Politico published on Tuesday, December 9th, calling the continent “weak” and “decaying” over immigration and the war in Ukraine.
Trump doubled down on his recent criticism, also reflected in the new U.S. National Security Strategy, echoing Europe’s civilizational decline. “Most European nations, they’re decaying. They’re decaying … They’re coming in from all parts of the world, but they want to be politically correct and don’t want to send them back to where they came from,” the president stated.
On the war between Russia and Ukraine, Trump said
I think Putin would like to see a weak Europe, and to be honest with you, he’s getting that. That has nothing to do with me.
Trump argued that EU leaders talk a lot but fail to deliver results, saying the war keeps dragging on and has been going on for four years, having started well before he took office–suggesting that Europe’s leadership is ineffective and unable to change the situation.
The U.S. president also accused Kyiv of “using the war” to avoid elections, which have been postponed under martial law since February 2022.
You know, they talk about a democracy, but it gets to a point where it’s not a democracy anymore.
