U.S. president Donald Trump has urged Ukraine to move “quickly” toward a deal to end Russia’s invasion, warning that delays could weaken Kyiv’s position.
Speaking at the White House on Thursday, December 18th, Trump said negotiations were nearing a breakthrough but stressed that hesitation could allow Moscow to change its stance. The comments come ahead of expected talks in Florida involving senior U.S., Ukrainian and Russian representatives.
According to the White House, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will meet Ukraine’s negotiator Rustem Umerov, while separate discussions with Russian officials are also planned. Despite reported progress on security guarantees for Ukraine, major disagreements remain over territorial concessions and Moscow has yet to respond publicly to the latest proposals.
