U.S. hints at scaling back its campaign even as the conflict escalates with fresh strikes and regional fallout.

U.S. President Donald Trump said he was considering “winding down” military operations against Iran, as Israel launched fresh airstrikes on Tehran and Beirut on Saturday after three weeks of war.

The strikes followed Iranian missile attacks on Israel and on the joint UK-U.S. military base at Diego Garcia. In response, the Israeli military said it had targeted regime-linked sites in the Iranian capital, which has faced sustained bombardment since the war began on February 28 with a coordinated U.S.-Israeli offensive.

The latest escalation came amid signs of a shift in U.S. strategy. Trump suggested the administration was moving away from pursuing regime change in Iran, while the Treasury Department eased pressure on global energy markets by lifting sanctions on Iranian oil shipments already at sea.

In a post on social media, Trump said the United States was “getting very close to meeting our objectives” and was considering “winding down” its military operations in the Middle East.
