U.S. president Donald Trump told The Telegraph that he is “very disappointed” in the UK Prime Minister for initially blocking the U.S. from using the island of Diego Garcia to conduct strikes on Iran. The President’s comments came two days after the joint U.S.-Israeli operation that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In an exclusive interview, Trump said that PM Keir Starmer’s initial refusal to let U.S. forces use the Chagos Islands base was unlike anything that had
happened between our countries before.
Britain had originally denied Trump permission to conduct strikes from bases such as Diego Garcia, citing international law. However, Starmer relented on the night of Sunday, March 1st , authorizing access to the island for
specific and limited defensive purposes.
Trump said Starmer “took far too long” to change his mind. He added that the delay was unacceptable given Iran’s responsibility for “horrible events” and casualties.
