On Wednesday, June 4th, U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order raising tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from 25% to 50% came into effect.

Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, European Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič said U.S.-EU trade talks are making progress but Donald Trump doubling tariffs on metals “doesn’t help” the negotiations.

After talks in Paris with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, the Commissioner said that the EU “strongly regrets” the American president’s decision to raise the tariffs to 50%.
